crash at sfo hoping to get more answers as to how it happened. flight 214 crash landed on july 6th, killing three people and injurying hundreds. we spoke with aviation expert who says investigators will focus on the plane's automation system and how much the pilots were relying on it. he says sometimes automation might do something you don't expect. >> if you have blind trust in the system, if you don't monitor it constantly, if you aren't actively open gauge -- engaged and aware, if you don't have the confidence to manually fly the plane well, as soon as you detect the automation isn't doing what you thought it should be doing it can lead to trouble very quickly. >> the ntsb hopes to finish its full investigation by next july. u.s. veteran was recently released after being detained in north korea says he was forced to make that taped confession. ed to the 85-year-old said he tried to show he was coerced by

alleged to have committed serious criminal violations. >> fbi assistant director in charge of the la field office, bill lewis and u.s. attorney detailed a sweeping and on going investigation into corruption at the la cointy sheriff's office. 18 current or former law enforcement officers were charged. 16 already under arrest, for alleged crimes that represent in the u.s. attorney's words a wide scope of illegal conduct. he arrests them for five separate indictments, each a separate case. for one, two deputy sheriffs are charged with civil rights violations for allegedly assaulting two inmates at the deadly weapon towers jail. a second indictment charges one sergeant four deputies for alleged civil rights violations against visitors at the central jail, including onee breaking one man's arm and illegally detaining an p official. a third indictment charges seven sworn officers including two lieutenants with a broad conspiracy to obstruct justice involving an inmate who was cooperating with the fbi.

while you might have heard of it, you probably never used it. a form of currency that frankly requires a little wit of imagination to understand. allen martin shows us bit coin has a growing group of believers. first, what some call the future of money if you can wrap your head around it. >> kind of like showing somebody what an email was before email ex. >> today, people crammed into this hotel conference room to learn more about a form of money that only exists in ones and zeros. >> usually my experience is about six months to wrap your head around it. >> bit coin exists only in the virtual world, created when supercomputers solve complex math problems and are rewarded with bit coin. then, that mind bit coin is sold at a market price e kind of like a commodity.

tonight. looks like it will happen again tomorrow night. 8:00a.m. temperatures clear and cold. temperatures near 40 degrees an hour from now. down to 38 degrees around livermore. freeze warnings are posted throughout the bay area. the only exclusion, because of the urban heat island, the city of san francisco. else where, though, it will be another cold one in the bay area. we'll get close to record lows. tomorrow, we gain a degree or two. the numbers will top out in the low 50s for the most part. plenty of sunshine around. not a drop of high pressure in sight. for us, just leaves us with cold nights, sunny days. that can be true all the way through christmas. there is nothing on the radar at all that suggest that we could get any moisture in the next couple of weeks. near record lowest tonight. slight warming trend begins and we're back to near 60 degrees by friday. if you're heading out of the

businesses popping up all around the 49er stadium. but more buildings mean less parking space. kpix 5's len ramirez reports game day could bring parking problems. they have been talking about this a long time, len. >> reporter: that's right. levi stadium is looking pretty good. the lights are on. you can see there is some parking out here. but it's only a fraction of what is actually needed. this is triggering a building boom in santa clara. the only thing they are not building more of is parking. >> levi staid the uphigh school already taken shape. -- stadium is already taking shape. it is acting as a magnet for places like big hotels and office building. >> the stadium a catalyst for development in our city. seems like there is a lot of people that want to be located around the stadium. >> there is just one major problem. >> the problem is there is no parking. i think it's going to be the first nfl stadium ever built with zero parking. >> santa clara resident say there is is parking surrounding the billion dollar stadium, it

just belongs to someone else. like the great american theme park or nearby businesses. the plan was always to lease about 21,000 spaces but that is coming up short. >> the people who own and lease those lots are smarter than the council and the 49ers gave them credit for. i think they gave them the middle finger to say no. we don't want your hoodlums in my parking lot. we don't want your problems. we don't want the fights or the garbage. >> the lack of game day parking has already forced the 49ers to postpone high profile monday night football game when businesses would still be using their own parking. but now even sunday game could be in -- games could be in trouble. it shows a majority of businesses with available parking nearby have not signed agreements with the 49ers. one exception is mission college which is working out the details to lease more than 2,000 spaces, but it is a long walk to the stadium. one high-tech engineer who works across the street from the stadium says the issues

should have been worked out by now. >> why do you think the businesses are not signing up? >> price is not right. not enough incentive. or businesses don't want the football crowd. >> santa clara is studying all these issues very carefully. we're making sure that not only our residents are protected, but our business residents are protected as well. >> reporter: the 49ers are postponing any monday night football game for the entire season when it opens in 2014. ironically, one of the first events at the new stadium will be a monday night football game between cal and oregon. many home fans will come on buses. reporting live in santa clara, len ramirez, kpix 5. >> just to compare, other bay area stadiums have much more on site parking than levi stadium would have. candle stick park has 8,000 on site parking spaces. tonight, united airlines is investigating how its crew left a sleeping passenger locked inside a plane. tom wagner missed his connecting flight to california

service. >> the national park service has proposed a large new parking lot above the valley to go here on panoramic highways. >> bulldoze a ridge, put a parking lot with bathrooms, lighting, paved parking. >> the national park service says they want to work with the neighbors. and, late this afternoon they said we heard the community's strong concerns about parking on panoramic highway. we're working with marin county officials to identify existing under utilized parking facilities else where to make the proposed reservation and shuttle system a success. one solution p would be to create a reservation system like what is being used here at allen martin candle stick the as the. that seems to be get -- alcatraz. that seems to be getting the most traction.

it's not just phone calls a e-mails that have been secr monitored.. new, leaked documents reveal the n-s-a s been spying on fantasy game well, turns out it isn't phone calls and emails. new documents release the nsa has been spike on games. that's right. they created make believe characters and infiltrated online video game like worldover war craft and second life. agencies worry that terrorist could use those games to communicate in secret. the documents also state the nsa collected information from

players on x box live. so far, no comment from the nsa. there's a warning tonight to parents of babies and toddlers. your child's highchair may not be as safe as you thought. julie watts explains there has been a dramatic increase in highchair accidents. >> reporter: yeah. more kids are falling out of highchairs. one child every hour is treated for injuries after falling out. a 90% increase in just eight years. according to a new report in clinical pediatrics, one reason is that millions of recalled highchairs remain in use. another, many parents aren't using the restraints that come with the seats figuring the tray alone is enough. that fall can have distracted sasstous consequences for a baby because they have realtively large heads they typically fall head first and they arms generally aren't strong enough to break that fall. highchair restraints should always be used. consider this next time you order a bottle of wine at a restaurant. the second cheapest bottle of wine on the list probably isn't

toss to brian the search for life on mars is turning up good news. it's the strongest evidence yet that a fresh water lake may have existed on the planet. the science journal says the nasa curiosity rover made the discovery in a large crater. for decades, scientists have known there was p water on mars, but now they know it could have been fresh water to sustain life. scientists say the lake existed more than 3 and a half billion years ago. >> if there were little green men on mars, now we know they weren't thirsty. >> that's right. then it got really cold and the water went away. >> yeah. i thought the opposite was happening, that we were doing the global warming thing. we could use a little bit of that. >> reporter: temperatures in record low for the bay area. we look live over the beautifully lit up embarcadero. 40degrees at concord. san francisco has 49. san jose 45. p santa rosa it is 40. it's going to go south from there. santa rosa will get down to low to mid 20s tonight.

no surprise. freeze warning again. through 9:00 a.m. tuesday for the entire bay area except for the city, temperatures will range from the low 20s to the mid 30s. you always need to protect the plants. tomorrow, we will warm up to the low 50s for much of the bay area. it will be warmer than we have had for the past three days. here is what's happening. the low pressure was effecting us and having the initial bout of cold p weather has now swept across the country. it was at the texas panhandle yesterday. ed to it was in the ohio valley. new york will have snow tomorrow. so that cold air is just pouring in from the polar regions. as a result we get near record lows in the 20s tonight. there is no moisture associated with the cold, so we don't get a dusting of the peeks as we sometimes -- peaks as we sometimes get. quite the opposite. high pressure will build. when it does, we will get temperatures to near 60 degrees by friday.
